Undeland Gard is a rather small, family-run farm. We are Katinka and Grzegorz, recently joined by Solei (born in March 2015), a polish-norwegian couple, who used to be wwoofers ourselves. We bought the farm in 2014 and started the process of shifting the production from conventional sheep and grass to growing a wide selection of organic vegetables, and with time also keeping some livestock. 2015 was our first season here, and we are still learning by trial and error, but we'll be glad to share what we know. And appreciate any knowledge you might want to share with us!
We keep some chickens and ducks for fun and eggs, but our main focus is on small-scale vegetable farming. We sell to restaurants and private costumers in Bergen and locally. In 2017 we will start the first CSA (community supported agriculture) in our region, meaning we will at times have to coordinate a lot of people working on the field together.
For wwoofers work will mainly consist of planting, digging, weeding, harvesting, sorting and packing of vegetables. We also want to start a herb garden, and generally have a large garden that needs attention. Wwoofers can also part-take in making hay and firewood, compost, do fence-work, clear new pastures, fix watering systems, and more. The list of projects, as always on a farm, is endless. In late summer and autumn we sometimes go on hikes and pick mushrooms and wild berries that grow everywhere in this particularly fertile part of Norway.
Undeland farm is also open for summer guests: we offer accomodation in two bedrooms and meals to tourists, something that we hope can inspire people, and be part of a "slow" and sustainable tourism. We expect our wwoofers to take part in practical work in the household and interact with guests - as part of the family.
We try to have two-three wwoofers with us during the summer season - so no big team of wwoofers for those that are looking for that. At times when there are tourists staying the house can still be quite packed with people and a very social place. Athough it is easy to find a quiet spot or go for a walk/hike/kayak/bikeride in beautiful nature. Wwoofers will have their own room in the main house or share one in the charming old storage house. They share common areas and meals with us. We want Undeland to be a welcoming space for people to gather and enjoy. We believe that not only plants can grow on a farm, but people can too! Ps: bring warm and waterproof clothes - Norway is cold even in summer! Also: we don't accept smokers or any use of illegal drugs (including marihuana).
